A concert

We are delighted to share news of a concert, Spirit of the Highlands and Islands, inspired by The Tapestry of the Highlands and Islands at the soon to open, Inverness Castle Experience.

This  concert will take place at the Empire Theatre, Inverness in March 2026 and will feature the remarkable work of James Ross.

James Ross first worked with Alexander McCall Smith on the song cycle Silver Darlings, a collection of songs about Scotland’s maritime history and culture, with lyrics by McCall Smith and music by Ross. They also worked on the album These Are The Hands, which featured McCall Smith’s words and Ross’s music, with performances by singers Michelle Burke and Kathleen MacInnes.

Alexander was the visionary behind The Great Tapestry of Scotland, the project from which many tapestry

projects have sprung, including the Tapestry of the Highlands. Each project has been designed by artist Andrew

Crummy. Alistair Moffat was the historian who created the narrative for the Great Tapestry, which was stitched

by 1000+ stitchers across Scotland. Some of these same stitchers have gone on to stitch the Tapestry of the Highlands..

Tickets for the concert are on sale now.

Alexander, Andrew and Alistair continue to work with Jan and Anna through The Tapestry Company.
